How can we make this board more exciting??

It's like a morgue here. How can we get more users? How can we spread the word about this site? I'd love the ability to share outdoor talk with more people from around the world!

Good question. I've been around here for about 4 years and up till about a year ago this place used to fly at lightning speed. To be honest, I don't know what's changed so dramatically to cause the slowdown. I still see a lot of the old names posting, plus many new ones, so there's definitely lurking going on. It does, and always has, slowed down on the weekends, but even during the week it's become slow. I wish I had some concrete ideas as to what's caused it. It's still a great resource for information. I blame Duckman

I think the slowdown was around the same time that bike shops starting making plenty of money out of Duckmans new hobby!

knowing duck for many years has shown a pattern with him, when he gets into something, he goes 10/10 th's until he learns all he can on a subject, then
tends to burn out form going at it so hard. his mind is so sharp on details that he had an
answer for most subject. I turned him on to taking pics and his posts were always accompanied by pics mixed in with the story and he embellished well on his tales.

i guess my point is that he relished the outdoors and made the time to take pics and shared the stories no matter how many times we had seen the "rock". I think if people just take the time to tell what they did even if wasn't much, we'd get activity to feed other thoughts.

p.s. Me and morris just patiencely keep asking him to go with us so when the bikes get old, he can return at least in moderation and hopefully contribute again in some form.

Back again.

undefinedHello, I am back again. Just got signed up. Can't say I really like the new forum yet, just need time to adjust I guess. Managed to score my old name, which doesn't really accurately depict me anymore either...

Ok, on the question. I bet the board has slowed for various reasons. I loved this board and had just started using it probably in November or December. Then I lost my primary job at work...thus being away from the computer and not as active...who knows. with the state of the present economy, maybe that's what happened to some people on the board! I enjoy the laid back environment here...no blows below the belt, just information sharing...that is healthy! all I can think of is, spread the word to your friends and get more people here.

Nice to see everyone here again!

Rest in Peace, Il Pirato! Marco Pantani!!

I think a large part is sharing pics and stories...for instance, I did tons of skiing, I posted tons of pics. I hope people enjoyed them immensely! I have plenty more. now I just have to figure out how to post pics!

Still new!

I am having problems accessing this from work, seems very slow, however, I think it might have to do with all the advertising and my /etc/hosts file, I'll have to look into it...

I seem to be accessing this site fine from home...

Great ideas everyone. I personally would love to hear about any trips people take and/or gear they've used that they think needs mentioning.
I love the pics from trips - like Snow Nymphs and others (sorry I can't recall them all).
I'll try and post some pics from my adventures here in VA, esp. in the spring when it gets really nice again!!
