Going to Canadian Rockies. Recommendations?

My much better half and I are planning a trip to Banff, etc for at least a week of dayhiking. Can anyone recommend a place to stay (not fancy but not a dump either), best time to go as far as decent weather, ie. no snow and still warm (we're probably going August/September), hiking recommendations, must do trails, etc.

We visited Yoho NP last summer. Lots of dayhikes.

The hotels in Banff can be quite crowded at that time of year so be sure to reserve wll ahead. I have stayed at the Charlton Cedar Court and the Banff Park lodge in the winter during ski vacations. Both are ok, probably overpriced like every other place in Banff without the discount I got. A cheaper alternative is to stay about half an hour east of Banff in Canmore.

I dayhike I really enjoy in Banff National Park is the Moraine Lake trail.

To be honest, I prefer Jasper National Park to Banff. it's less crowded and more scenic.

I would recommend finding the binder edition of the book Classic Hikes in the Canadian Rockies by Graeme Pole. As for hikes, the Beehives and the Plain of the Six Glaciers is a great day hike. Get started early to avoid some of the crowds. Some great views of Lake Louise. Going up Saddleback Pass and then up Fairview Mt. is pretty nice as well. Make sure you see Moraine Lake as well.
