I use this pack for about 90% of my outdoor pursuits and I really like it.....with a few exceptions. Here's a kind of breakdown of my uses, likes, and dislikes.....
USES: I use this pack for a wide variety of things including summer and light winter backpacking for a weekend. I think with my summer load (~15 lbs), I could stretch it into nearly a week. In winter, I can use it provided the weather conditions suit using my BD Betamid and Marmot down bag (when I go to my 0* 3D bag I have to upsize the pack to 3850 ci.). I also use this for a crag pack of both rock and ice. For a rock pack, it's not the greatest, mostly because I have not found a way to secure a rope to the top with the lid when the pack is not full. For ice, the pack excells by holding everything I need and climbing very well ( I remove the stay and framesheet and it fits like a glove). In the same way, the pack feels pretty good while skiing (XC touring), plenty of movement and support.
LIKES:
-I like the fit (men's Medium) and this is critical for any pack you buy.
-It can be stripped down considerably, removing the stay, the framesheet, dropping the top-lid, removing the waist-belt which saves alot of weight yet they can be utilized for heavier loads.
-Versatility, I reach for this pack before most others.
-Durable and well made like most Marmot products
-Price! I got mine for $34, but $100 ain't too shabby either.
DISLIKES:
-A bit heavy with all the fancy stitching and straps, etc. (but remember, you can strip it down).
-Sleeve for a hydration bladder in the main compartment.....I never liked that feature because of the potential for rupture while it's positioned over my sleeping bag.
-The fastex closures on the side compression straps are complete crap. They are lightweight ones that don't stay closed when you cinch the straps down.
-I don't necessarily like the way that the tool holders use a bungee cord, but unlike the tool tubes on some packs where they can fall out if the buckle releases, the worst that has happened was a tool slapped me in the back of the leg after snagging on a branch.
