New MSR pumps.

Has anyone had a chance to use one yet? I finally broke down and purchased one since my original pump had broken.

I was pretty excited to finally have the ability to simmer with my whisperlite. So, I went to try it out and all I could do with it was create a huge fireball!

I wondered if it was my stove. I tried it a few more times, and looked closer at it. The stove was spewing white gas all over.

So, I called up MSR. The lady was great. After about a minute of me explaining, she said they would have a new one in the mail for me. That was Monday. It came today!

I lit the stove up and it seems to work. On the pump that didn't work, I could turn the adjustment less than an 1/8th of an inch to keep a blue flame. With the new pump, it is about 1.5 turns.

It works much better. I still need to try it out and see how well it simmers.

I am pretty excited to not have two settings any more for my whisperlite!

Nick

MSR new pumps

I bought one of the new MSR fuel control pumps for my Whisperlite Intl and it works great. Simmering is much easier now and the pump looks, and is said to be more sturdy than the older style. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Whisperlite or dragonfly?

Hey Nick,

Are you sure that's for the whisperlite? I thought it was for the dragonfly. I haven't seen a new pump for the whisperlite yet. Where did you find it?

thanks,
Bob

Bob,

Yeah, it is for the whisperlite. It is actually for MSR WhisperLite™, WhisperLite Internationale™, SimmerLite™, and XGK™ Stoves.

There is actually another pump that is specifically for the dragonfly. Refer to the following link to see them.

http://www.msrcorp.com/stoves/fuel_pumps.asp

I got one at the REI in Bloomington, MN. I see there is a link to buy them online from the link.

It seems to work really well. I still need to actually cook something on it to be sure, but the flame control seems much more managable than before.

Hope that helps.

Nick
