Favorite Spots in VA

Hey all - I'm just starting out and I thought I would see if anyone has any suggestions of favorite spots for weekend backpacking/day hikes around VA. I'm in the Northern Virginia area. I have heard some good things about Signal Knob so I think I'll take advantage of the nice weather this weekend and head out there. Has anyone been out there? Thanks for any suggestions.

good va hiking....

Iron Mountain Trail, southwest VA, and anything on the AT from NC to VA. Great hiking. Best of luck. Brad

I'm in Charlottesville, so I'm out in Shenandoah Natl. Park all the time. Really anything there is great. Grab a guidebook and hike till your heart's content. The real good hikes are usually crowded in the summer - Old Rag Mtn, WHite Oak Canyon, the whole AT.
Lemme know if you want more guidance and have fun!

Check out this book!

You might check out this book:

Hike America: Virginia
by Mary & Bill Burnham (The Globe Pequot Press)

It has a lot of good information with mile-by-mile descriptions, stories and other good stuff like that. If you live in the area you could really hike it all!

Hope you have fun!
