What's so special about the fireplace?

I guess property values are so high in Van that you could only afford a 1907 house.

you should read up on Count Rumford (look around that site)...he was a contemporary of Benjamin Franklin but had to run to Europe since he supported the British in the war!!

his fireplace design is tall and shallow with a clay "throat". The opening into the chimney is only about 4 inches wide creating a venturi type effect....you get mad draw and no smoke!!
It burns wood like crazy...

The Count was a big-wig back in the day. It must be fun to have that sort of history in your house. How long have you been in this house? Were you not just lrecently ooking for a house? I get confused trying to keep up with everyone's social history.
