So, I have a Tiros Convertible CD tent. It came with a rainfly with a zipper on one end so you could zip either the roomy winter rainfly (w/ pole) on for a huge vestibule, or a summer rainfly in case you don't need all that room (and weight).
Well, summer is coming up, and I don't want/need to pack around the extra pole and huge rainfly. I tried going without that part of the rainfly once, but ended up in a nasty storm with just horrible luck, and got wet.

Does anyone have a spare summer rainfly they're not using that they want to sell me? Thas seems ideal, though unlikely.
I called SD, and they don't have any rainfly's for my tent left. They do have the following options though:

A rainfly for a Tiros Expedition that would run me $130, though they couldn't tell me how large the rainfly is (it could be a huge rainfly, just like what I have now, only without the zipper). I couldn't find any images of the Tiros Expedition with the rainfly on.
A trade-in program where I give them my Tiros Convertible CD and in exchange, get a brand new Omega Convertible for $168.
A tent body and rainfly from a Tiros 1 for $120 with which I can reuse my poles, but maybe/maybe not my footprint. I could then have a dedicated winter and summer body/rainfly, and just have to swap out the gear sling, poles (no biggie since they're packed separate anyway) and maybe the footprint.

Opinions? I tried to research the Tiros 1, but came up with nearly nothing since it's old. I did a LOT of research before buying my Tiros Conv. CD, and even got a good deal on it. I am not sure if the Tiros 1 is as reliable in construction and waterproofing.
I am trying to keep costs down as I am not even remotely made of money, but unless someone pops up with a summer rainfly for my Tiros or just the summer part to the fly, it's looking like money will be deserting me... Help!

Have you thought of using a sylnylon tarp? I use one in the summer as a vestibule and it works great and weighs next to nothing. It is 6x8 and has proven very sturdy. I use my trekking poles to set it up and carry extra stakes and ropes to tie it down.

Walt,
I think I know what you're talking about. We had some of those in Scouts, they were like $80/tarp. Considering the high cost and poor fitment, I think it would be better to just have a rainfly. We have occasional horizontal rain in the summers, and I can't imagine a tarp protecting from that.

I am definitely leaning toward the third option - a whole new tent for $120, however, I have to know whether or not I can use shortened poles. I like the fact that my current tent has little ends into which you can slide the shortened middle poles in order to save about 8 pole segments worth of weight (in addition to weight saved by ditching the winter vestibule for a summer one). However, if the Tiros 1 doesn't have the little plastic pole ends, OR the Tiros 1 rainfly doesn't fit my tent, then that option just isn't going to work to my benefit.

I really like my tent, and don't want to get rid of it.
I would like to know if the Tiros Expedition also has a convertible rainfly, or if it's got a sewn-in winter vestibule or a sewn-in summer vestibule. Arghh, no fun. Ideas? Help? Sell me your summer fly?
