Gidday,
Has anyone here used the Montbell Monoframe Shelter Hexagon tent? I'm camping in Tasmanian conditions (read: wet, cold and blowing like hell), so I need something pretty sturdy. I'm currently using a Vango Microlite 100, but am finding it frustratingly short of headroom.
Cheers,
Wynne

I haven't used a MontBell Hexagon although I have examined one thoroughly in a local store. Basically the same design as similar one pole tents that Eureka and REI have produced in the past but about 1lb lighter. Owning one of the previously mentioned models, it was interesting to compare. The material on the Montbell's fly looked a little fragile to me and I hate the translucent lime green color. The vents are a nice added feature on this basic design. Personally I wouldn't throw down the kind of money MontBell charges for a shelter like this and neither would I be inclined to use one in wet and windy (similar to your Tasmanian conditions) south coast of BC.

Thanks for that, HB...I'll check out those other two suppliers...anyone else have any thoughts?

I bought a Montbell Monoframe Shelter Diamond - I had it a while before I set it up in the yard but I finally set it up last week. I'm not sure what to think about it. It takes a lot of work and stakes to set up. Once it's up, it fairly secure thanks to the rainfly. I think I'll probably continue to use a bivy on most of my trips do to the ease of set up, but for trips where I'm basecamping or it looks like there will be lots of rain I'll give the Montbell a try. First thing though is that I'm going to take it car camping to see how it does overnight. I'm concerned about condensation - the inner tent looks like it'll definately touch my sleeping bag. I'm also concerned about winds and how the tent will hold up. The fly might be great used alone in rainy weather though.
