View Full Version : Koflach Degre vs Vertical
Hi,
I'm looking around to buy a pair of plastic boots, and I have the possibility to purchase the Koflach Degre or Vertical at the same price (somewhere around the equivalent of 200$).
My question is which one of these boots is better (considering the same price for both models). My activities are mainly hiking, but I also do some serious mountain climbing and some Ice climbing (1 or 2 times per season).
My first option was the Degre boot, because of my hiking profile, but now that I've found the same deal for the Verticals, I have some doubts. I've understood that the quality of the Verticals is better, but I'm worried not to have problems with them while walking.
Can anyone give me an advice about this issue ?
Thank you,
Doru

I can give you is to try both these boots on and walk around the store with each. Each persons foot is very different and even if used/liked one of these boots, what works for me may not work for you. Now for fit - when trying on plastic boots, start with your normal boot size and be sure to wear socks that you will be wearing with this boot. Before trying on the boot with the insert, remove the insert on the plastic shell. With your toes all the way to the front of the shell, you should have approximately 1 inch of space between the back fo your foot and the shell. Put the insert back and and put the boot on - it should feel comfortable (although it may be stiff to woalk in) and you should be able to wiggle your toes. Just my $.02.

John,
thank you for the advices.
However, with this method I thing I can see if the boot fits me well, but I'm not sure if I can get a good idea about which boot is good for me, just by walking through the store. I'm more interessed on which of these boots is most suitable for me considering the activity.
I know that the Degre is reccomended as being perfectly suited for hiking, but from Koflach site it seems like the Vertical is also "Very Good" at Hiking. And considering that I've found both boots at the same price, I do not know whether I should go for the Vertical or not (is it possible for the Vertical to hurt my foot more than the Degre ?).
At a first look, I didn't noticed any difference between the stiffness of these boots (I don't even realise why the Vertical is excellent for Ice Climbing and the Degre is not).
These are actually the questions I'm facing, so if anyone has some experience with these boots, please help :)
Thanks,
Doru
