It is a new year and has been for a couple of months now. With a new year comes new plans, possibly new purchases, and new hopes and dreams. Ok then, so my question is what are some of outdoor releated plans for this coming year?

For me I would say that I have only modest plans for 2005 - having recovered from a road biking injury I would like to get back to climbing outdoors again, and of course more road biking. And of course, a trip down South to link up with the Southern contingent from this site is always there and is something that I would like to achieve.

have a swell one > John

Plenty of weekend trips, got one planned for next weekend. Biggest disappointment this year is the lack of snow. I got a pair of Northern Lite snowshoes and have only used them once this season.
We're planning on a trip in March and and doing a week long one in the Porcupine Mtns in May.
Looking forward to getting out and pounding some dirt.

well john its an open invite as far as coming south, i'm just needing ot get out more than i have this last six months, duck migrated to bikes and now dabbing in paintball again, its hard to get him to go. Work is smothering me, i may have to back down a notch and let someone else handle all the responibility so i can at least play/train some

No plans for any big purchases. I've cycled and recycled gear so many times that I think I'm pretty much where I want to be....I think. As for plans....hoping to hook up with the Ga. boys in the Pacific NW this early fall, but with having just gotten back to work after 6 months on disability, I'll have to see what the vacation time looks like by then. But otherwise....just continue with the volunteer work, ( a real labor of love ), continue getting out for the weekend jaunts into the big mountains, the desert and I suppose just try to stay upright :) Ed

Mmm... Biggest plans are to actually get some snow camping in to go with some back country snowboarding. Picked up a nice split-board a couple years back and have hardly had it out at all. I'll be heading out with a large group in early March but that's about it so far...

So, um, getting out more... More nights under the stars... That's the plan...

Oh, and I need to buy a new tent still... That'll be the big gear purchase for this spring...

This is actually a good question for me, maybe I could get some advise from you guys. I will be graduating from college at the end of spring, and about the same time, my parents are going to be moving from the town I have basically lived my whole life (except college) to open a bed and breakfast. I am getting my degree in English and want to do journalism eventually, but for this summer, and possibly a little while longer, I want to do something different. A lot of people travel between school/grad school, or school/work, and I would like to backpack a lot, but probably don't have the funds to sustain much of that. So I have been thinking, and this is where you guys come in, about different temporary jobs, anything from peacecore (big time comitment 2 years) to working in a national or state park. Do you guys have any experiance/recomendations/opinions? I want some sort of experiance that will help when I eventually get into journalism.

Thanks for any input, sorry to hijack the thread a little,
Greyhound

Getting a job with the AMC up in New Hampshire - pay isn't great but I believe your quarters and food maybe free.

What is the AMC? I'm from California and don't know much about back east wilderness stuff.

Just back from the ONP coastline after four glorious days.

My hiking plans are to possibly hike the WCT in June and do some hiking in Jasper NP in July.

My next major gear purchase is to replace my MTB's cheap drivetrain with SRAM X7.

Mt Mitchell state park in NC hires some summer help. You would be doing everything from cleaning toilets, to trail work, to cutting grass, to working the consesion stand at the top. 6600ft in elevation. Has snowed every month of the year at one time or another. Northern Boreal Rain Forest. If you want info Email me at "KeithEA@aol.com". Keith

As a a road biker I'm curious as to what happened on your bike. I've taken corners too wide a nd too fast and gone off the road, flipped over my my handle bars, slammed into the side of a car that didn't stop at a stop sign, been run into a ditch, been swerved into and of course cursed at by teenagers "having fun" etc. What happened on your bicycle?

As far as your question, no major purchases but a good year p[lanned, Big Bend, Arizona, Yosemite, Guadalupes and possibly more in the Fall.

Hope you are up and riding by the time you get this reply. I always enjoy seeing your polls, although I don't always have a reply.
