Just noticed that the 'Hourglass Couloir' over by Mt Rose slid early this week. This is a bigtime favorite backcountry spot for skiers and boarders over by the Mt. Rose ski resort... Nice area, normally...

This was definitely a biggie... Think 2-3 Meter crown. A photo of it shortly after it happened from miles away gives you some perspective on size. It was a natural release as well. Windloaded lee slope with tons of fresh on late December rain crust...

Highly technical term.... Doesn't come up often in the states... Mostly european... :p

The amazing thing is within 24-48 hours of this, the overall rating has dropped to Low, with isolated Moderate risk in some areas under corniced ridges, etc.. Even there things are looking pretty good considering... Settlement with stabilization has been good with things starting to bond a bit better to that crust +-10 feet down...

Good times!

Low risk with patches of moderate sounds do-able. I'd only want to ride in large groups with beacons and tons of knowledge and experience.:D

Yah, I saw that one too... Basically that's the size of the crown for the "Mongo".... Put's it into perspective...

BigLines is a nice place to browse photos....

:) The key is to work at 12+ hour day, then you don't feel guilty about the 2+ hours of random surfing that get's squeezed in... And you?

I have too many 'online' virtual meetings these days that allow me to pop up the browser on one monitor while I'm listening to a presentation and watching the slides on another... Multi-tasking at it's finest... Good times...

Makes you wish you had 3 hands, 1 for operating the mouse , 1 for taking notes & the 3rd for...
Suppose to get really warm this week, might go for a dip in the lake. At least most of the snow is off the driveway, still a crap load left.
Yes, I'm working, apparently MLK day isn't observed in Austria. At least they are 9 hours ahead so I can miss another night of sleep.

That is a nasty section of roadway. I've only been through there during the summer but I knew about it's winter history at the time. Pretty scary potential there for wiping cars out. They do an amazing job managing the risk...
