Ok, so a bunch of my buddies planned a trip to Whistler over the summer and they all left yesterday. A few of us didn't have the funds at the time and now we're really kicking ourselves because conditions have been terrible here. It's so bad that my local mountain was forced to close yesterday. Basically, we're trying to plan a quick trip out west (my first) and I need your help. We're looking for cheap cheap cheap. The best deal we found so far is $660 each for two of us, including lift tickets, lodging, shuttle, and plane, at Heavenly. It's 4 days of riding, but I really don't know what mountains are good and what to look at. Someone guide me please, haha. Remember, we don't have much to spend. :o

Thanks!

I'd rather ride my couch than HEAVENLY! Freakin tourist overloaded, skiercentric, yupiesuckit fest! Friends don't let friends ride HEAVENLY.

I have to admit the price is right (I'm a rollin out there in late MARCH, don't know where I'm gonna stay yet, but that shouldn't be a prob (likely the casinos in South Tahoe).

You must ride HOMEWOOD, and I really liked ALPINE MEADOWS... and of course the obligitory visit to SQUAWLLYWOOD.

Tickets at HOMEWOOD is mad cheap, but getting there could be an issue.

Sucks here in the East don't it? :(

Heavenly is actually a pretty good place to ride. Espeically if you are talking about a Destination type resort where you just want to setup camp and hang-out. It's right there in the middle of south lake, so you really have no need for a car. Plenty of stuff to do right there as well. A few clubs, casinos, etc, all in walking distance, or free shuttle distance...

If you can hook up with E or AC, they can show you where the goods are at. Heavenly has been getting plenty of snow this year so coverage is definitely not an issue after this last week, and the addition 5+ ft expected this coming weekend.

For the best freeriding, you'll want to hang out on the Nevada side. The chalenging stuff is Mott's & Killebrew canyon areas. The front has more of the park stuff, but I haven't really spent any time there. The key is to find a place and explore it for a while. You'll waste a lot of time and energy going from one side of the mountain to the other.

Yes, there are more tourists there than other places, but they tend to stay on the Cali side on the main groomers. The best stuff remains crowd free and in good shape days after a storm, weather permitting...

When are you planning on going up there?

As a former Heavenly S-passholder I have to say that place is all right. Just like NK said, Motts & Killibrew is challenging, double black, steep and narrow. Remember riding last season with E and NK at Motts, blew a turn then fell half half way down before stopping... Reon, I think you would like that place, as I recall you had some nice "Pink" boxes/rails in your front yard. I know Heavenly has definitely stepped up da parks and have put tons of new faster lifts in. Which means no long lines.... By the way what dates are you looking at? Maybe we can all meet up (NK,E,AC and Me).

Thanks for the help guys!! Sorry Chuckie, it's probably going to be Heavenly because it's the cheapest we can find. We won't be able to rent a car, so Homewood and Squaw won't happen this trip. :( Maybe next year though. This is so last minute, haha. Rich, I would love to meet up with you guys. We've never been out west before, so this trip is going to be huge for us. Thanks for the tips NK! We'll definitely be doing a lot of exploring and avoiding the crowds will be key. We're booking it tonight, so I'm not sure of the dates yet, but it's going to be within the next 2 weeks. I'll post them up when I know for sure!

Soooo stoked! :D

I have quite a few buy one get one free tickets for Sierra. You can help yourself. Sierra is usually one of the top places for parks & is a good place to ride. They have buses that pick you up in S Lake. Heavenly is actually a lot of fun, just have to know where to look. If I can still ride powder a week or 2 after a storm, then I don't mind. To tell you the truth, anywhere is good & nothing is too far.

Everything is booked. We'll be flying into Reno on the 19th and leaving on the 24th. We're staying at the Rodeway Inn at South Lake Tahoe. Can't wait!! I don't think the 152 is going to cut it in all that snow, even if I set the stance back, haha. I'll try to borrow a bigger board . :D If any of you will be around Heavenly on those 4 days, please let me know.

I'll be off next week, and should be up there the whole time. I'm planning on taking Sean (my oldest kid, who by the way has a brother named Ryan, good name huh?) up there in the early part of the week, and then riding w/o the kid during the later part. I think Thursday and Friday would be good days to ride... By the way how many are rolling with? 3 or 4.... I'll check and see what plans E, AC and NK have for those days. I know AC will be gone for the first part of next week (back country filming), but he should be able to get one day of riding in... What places do you want to hit? Alpine Meadows (always $39.00 unless its a holiday), sits on the backside of Squaw Valley, big place with a feel of being out of bounds... Of course Heavenly would be closer but if have to pay full price for tickets then it sucks, tickets run around $60 bones. Sierra would be a good choice, they have lots to offer in a compact way. Plus there's a bus that goes from the casino to Sierra. so you don't need a car for a sierra trip. Also, if you could get those 2 for 1 tickets from E. that would save ya some dough. (shoot me a pm at Richard.Gaughen@dcss.ca.gov or RJNCC@sprintmail.com) and I'll give some more info. Ryan, If you can't get hold of E, you can also purchase a 3pk of tickets for $117 for sierra, which works out to $39 ea. but this place can get zoo'd out on the weekends. but this is a great place for the mid-week. If you have a car I'd go to Kirkwood, great place anytime mid or weekends. This place has MAD terrain.... we're talking skull & crossbones, double diamonds. expert only.... Its the shizz.... Oh, I can't forget Reverend SC's favorite place Boreal aka: Boring Hill.... This place is totally set up for park riding, they have like 7 or 8 park runs... and now they have an indoor skate park. its only $36 for a ticket there and you can also ride da nights there. Night tickets are a little cheaper (3-9pm). Hope this helps....

I may be able to head up there around the 22nd or 23rd... Have a free pass for at least 1 day at Heavenly. The good news is there is plenty of base up there. The bad news is I don't see a whole lot of new snow on the horizon anytime soon. Oh well... Might be a time to play in the parks.. :)

Don't forget to bring the fake ID's for the casinos.. :)
