and it, like, hurts.

Those snowboarding muscles I used to have, aren't quite there anymore. My legs are strong from mountainboarding, but my calves and all that...whew! And boots are uncomfortable! And having your feet locked in! What the!!! I totally can't jump anymore and tried a rail or two and literally landed on my head.

but it was so fun I'm going back out tomorrow for two days. Now up at Gore Mt, NY.

hope ya'll are having fun too!

I went riding Mt Bachelor, OR last week. First day of the season for me. I was pretty sore by 11am and called it quits at noon. I find that riding a full day isn't all that fun anymore ... unless the later part of the day is building jumps with pals ;)

My feet totally hurt. Especially the tops ... right above my arches. Those backside turns were KILLING me on the last run down. I have Burton mission bindings and Burton boots ... you'd think that combo would work well. But I was in serious pain. I gotta find a tweak before the next ride ...

Have you guys heat treated your boot liners yet this year. I went up 2 or 3 times, with some of the same complaints. I took my boots down and had the liners remolded, and wammo, my feet felt better. I also found myself taking Ibuprofen before I hit the slope too. Feel much looser now. I've been up about 7 times since the remold and it has gotten better and better. That and better snow anyway. Hope this helps!! :D

These boots are brand new. Is remolding a process they do at ski shops? Or is it a matter of removing the lining and walking around in it for a couple days.

Pending on the boot, it's a matter of taking them out of the shell and actually baking them and refitting them to your feet.

I recently purchased some old Morrow "Intuition" heat moldable liners to replace my old liners in my Malamutes. Did the home bake job and it turned out well. There are some really good instructions on the process floating around the web. Most notably located at moldableliners.com.

Anyway, yes, refitting is key. A pro will usually do a better job, but try it at home first. It's free...

Oh, and check what kind of liners you have for your boots. Not all are truly "heat moldable". Just the higher end ones. ThirtyTwo, higher end Flow, and many other higher end boots are, so it's worth looking..

It might just be better if you took them to your local shop. Many places will do once for free, and they would also be familiar with your boot. They will know if it has the treatable liners or not. I would suggest doing it once a season, especially if they are the form fitting types, ie. having ankle padding or extra arch supports.

[Geez it's been a while since my last post..]

I hit Mount Hood this weekend, finally. The conditions haven't been good but I couldn't hold out any longer. It was my first trip up this season and man, that first run... my calves were burning. But after a little adjustment to my boots I had a hell of a day! And my legs were feeling way strong from all the spin classes lately, so I was able to go ALL day, bombing down a run so I could squeeze a last one in before the lifts closed.

I stayed up near the boundary line and found some really nice fluffy, fun stuff. The new Vista lift makes such a huge difference on the crouded lift lines, so I stayed over toward that side of the mountain all day. I really surprised myself at how aggressive I was - and no spills! I usually just cruise along, carving back and forth at my own pace, but I was really in my own little groove and attempted some jumps that I'd never consider before. Oh, and LANDED them! Of course, they were little jumps, but I was still pleased.

On the drive back to Portland, I was an absolute motor mouth to my boyfriend... I was on such a high. "Did you see when I did this, and oh, did you catch that, and... " I drove him nuts, but I was just so happy that we had a really great day up on the mountain.

Not that I bloody ride my ATB anymore (I don't actualy have a good reason, must be my overt laziness to hiking up hills), but have you noticed how it's much easier to land a jump on an ATB? Seriously, I have NEVER landed a jump on a snowboard (thoes who have seen my can testify to this fact), but I can land some mad shizz on an ATB. I think it's all the slippy sliding on the snowboard that throws me, the ATB youst kind of pints and goes.

BTW, I heard NC was getting more snow than we are in MD! Weatherwizzard must be on crack again! :)

Welcome back.... Glad to hear you are finally getting out to play in the snow. Funny how being in shape makes it easier to pick up where you left off, and even encourages you to push it a bit more. Congrats on the jumping too... Fun catching a little air and riding away from it with a grin...

Anyway, glad to hear you guys had a good time for your first day of the season... It really sounds like how my wife was after her first day out this year. Huge smile, good natural high and she couldn't wait to get back up to it.

Good times... Glad to see ya alive and well...
