Sun: Bluebird
Wind: None
Temps: -15C to -7C
Snow: Powder (60cm fresh from previous few days)

No new snow in the Lake Geneva area means a mandatory trip down to Zermatt. 5AM dawn patrol to arrive at Tasch by 8:00am. Train up to Zermatt, then the long walk across the village make us nearly on the first lift up.

Absolutely perfect day. Cold, no wind, and clear skies. A pretty good dump occurred over the last several days with 60cm accumulated, 35cm in the last day. The conditions were good but as the day wore on the powder became heavy in the sun and forming crust by the mid afternoon. The shady spots stayed good all day. Met with Scott, whom we met there last year at the same time. He showed us his offpiste routes on the Cervinia side. Good day but all the postholing around got the better of my by midday. It gets to be a lot of work when combined with an altitude of 3800m. <gasp>

I took lots of video but that will have to wait for my new 'puter to arrive....

Nice pics... Glad to see you are getting out there and getting your season rolling in style. Second weekend out for some good powder isn't bad.

The terrain does look like it's crying for a split-board for some of the off-piste stuff. That or pack a pair of 'verts' to minimize the postholing...

Anyway, good stuff. Keep it coming!

I was thinking a lot about my options while stomping around up to my knees (and mid thigh at times)....I have a pair of verts but too lazy to carry the extra bulk with me unless I know I really need them. With a split board, what's the turnaround time to going from board to ski mode? As I am normally with skiers, I hate to make them wait. Then again they are already waiting...doh!

Hmm... Turn around time for converting... On Voile hardware, assuming you're not putting climbing skins on, 5 mins or less. Burton will add a minute or two as you need to take a little extra time to clear snow/ice out of the hardware.

As you are more used to it, your time will improve.

More info at: www.splitboard.com BCRider finally got around to finishing his website. It's now the #1 source for split info on the web. Good stuff..
