Well after more MRI's, it's officiall. Complete sloppy rupture of the upper achilles... I'm talented...

Anyway, surgery tomorrow. Various casts and crutches for 6-8 weeks. Just long enough to screw up part of my bachelore party plans... Was supposed to spend two days in Arizona racing Corvette Z06's.. No go... But Vegas should still be on, and I should be walking with a good limp for my wedding..

Total recovery time 9 - 12 months if all goes well. At least I have a good chance for next season.. If not, maybe I can work on using a sit-ski next season.. :)

I'll pop back in later this week when the drugs kick in.

Sheesh, when you tear it up, you really tear it up! I'm sorry you have to go under the knife, esp. with the big event coming up soon. You got the insurance thing all squared away, I take it?

Good luck with the op, and post-op. Between you and T-Bone and jibby, we've had three too many injured people on this board this season. NO MORE INJURIES ALLOWED!

But, hmm...A wheelchair might actually be kinda useful and fun in Vegas...damn, those walks between casinos can be loooooooong.

Seriously though, sorry to hear that surgery is necessary, we'll be sending positive vibes your way, so that recovery will be through in a jiffy, ok?

damn!!
Upper achilles huh, maybe that's why you didn't hear a loud pop or something?

You'll have to work hard at the rehab to get it back 100% (sorry, not trying to bum you out further)...

sucks but as they say, at least the season has wound down...

Good luck with the surgery. A co-worker had that surgery and they gave him a sweet boot to wear. Maybe E could modify it for you and you could ride.:)

welp, surgery went fine... As for the injury itself, I'm talented... I felt the whack/release sensation, but didn't hear a pop. Evidently the reason is it was more of a "riiiiiiip" than the classic "pop" or "bang" associated with an achilles tendon. It the Dr's own words, the upper achilles was "shredded". What normally takes him 15-20 minutes to clean up and sew back together took him an hour... Still thinks it'll heal up just fine, just not any time soon. If I'm lucky I'll be in shape for next season..

Anyway, feeling kinda funky.. Need to sack out for a while.. Talk to ya all soon...

damn that sucks!

I went into surgery too! I broke my wrist (scaphoid fracture) again at bear mountain in LA. It didn't heal properly last year so I went into surgery last week. I have an elbow cast for 3 1/2 more weeks. Then a short cast or brace for 4 weeks after that. I'm glad I injured it because I couldn't do pushups after last year's injury.

I'm still going riding haha... I have a sling I will keep my cast in under my jacket. Kirkwood is open until May 23rd!

Take advantage of the pain killer while you can man!

Now for the recovery/rehab....not wishing it on anyone. Mine's actually gone pretty well. Hope yours does as well.

I'm glad I injured it because I couldn't do pushups after last year's injury!I broke my navicular bone (in the palm) and it was tender for almost two years. I had the same problem that pressure when the wrist was bent as in a push-up caused me a pang. It eventually got better. Hope the surgery took care of it. Just don't fall and re-injury yourself.:p

You can ride with one arm? Dang, I need both of 'em to flail around! ;)

Hope that arm heals up nice and strong, so in the future you can do those, uh, "push-ups" (riiiight...we know what you're *really* referring to, d! :p ) without pain.

How'd you break it? Ice-incident?

Gad, that's gnarly! :(

Sounds like the doc really earned his paycheck putting you back together.

That's a long haul recovery, sweets. Hang in there. Better, stronger, faster next season, let's hope.

Yep, definitely refilling these scripts... Good stuff too, lortab.. "hydrocodone" or what'ev... Mild opiat, good stuff.. Just make sure you're in a happy place when you up the dosage.. Not that I'd condone such things.. No... Never..

As for the sympathy, yah, she's good to me. Although she is off in Tahoe this weekend and I'm at home.. Think she owes me when she returns..

I just got the first cast off.. still hasnt healed.. now i'm in a short arm. First time i've ever seen pins getting pulled out... EWW.. haha.

Someone asked how I originally broke it... last year at Bear Valley I went off their biggest kicker and I didn't have enough speed to clear the landing. I fell back really hard and bounced off my hand.

This year I was stomping these garbage cans at Bear Mountain. There were 3 in a row.. on the 3rd one it was angled down and my nose went into the snow and i flipped forward... I was going pretty fast too.

In any case, it never healed properly last year. I didn't have insurance so I let it be. So far the total bill right now is like $4500. Thank god for having insurance now ;-)

It really sucks...I've been riding for 4 years.. and i'm ALMOST able to do a 360.. damn injuries keep messing me up. I'm hoping to go to Hood for 3-4 days this summer. Just sit and practice all day.
