January 22, 2007 (Las Vegas, NV ) – Last night, on the eve of the SIA.07 SnowSports Trade Show, attendees were given a visual preview of next season’s hottest winter fashions at the 2nd Annual SIA Snow Fashion Show, sponsored by Volvo, and held on the Vegas strip at Fashion Show Mall. A crowd of over 1,600 snowsports retailers, reps, manufacturers and media cheered as models worked the runway in the hottest styles that will set the stage for fashion trends in the streets and on the hill for the 2008 winter season.
Returning to Mandalay Bay for the fifth year, the SIA.07 SnowSports Trade Show is the premier event in the snowsports industry. Over the next four days (Jan 22-25), SIA.07 will draw over 18,000 attendees including manufacturers, retailers, reps, resorts, elite athletes and media personalities. With 340,000 net square feet and 900 brands exhibiting in 3400 booths – SIA.07 is THE show for the snow sports industry.
Once the doors opened to SIA.07, attendees experienced a two-story structure called “the YARD” – created with an urbran street vibe, the YARD features over 30 brands that represent the unique lifestyle and culture of snowboard and action sports.
Within the YARD neighborhood, show attendees can check into THE BLOCK HOTEL Lounge and relax in the VIP reception area with free Hangover Tonics or meet up with clients in one of the private rooms. Guests of THE BLOCK HOTEL can play video games, take a power nap in the chill area or enjoy a free 15-minute massage. Each evening, DJs, bands and artists will be featured inside the YARD including Lyrics Born, presented by Skullcandy and NEFF, live performances by Marc Frank Montoya, pro-Snowboarder, Jamie Lynn and pro-Snowboarder Trevor Andrew’s band “Trouble Andrew.”
Realizing the importance of a healthy environment on a weather-dependent industry, SIA.07 SnowSports Trade Show upped their environment-friendly efforts at this year’s show. SIA is the first convention to work with the staff of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center to provide an onsite recycling program. The association also purchased renewable energy certificates in the amount of 225,000kWH for 100% of the electric power used during the Show. In addition, SIA has committed to purchasing renewable energy for its home office electric power requirements for the next three years.
The SIA SnowSports Trade Show has consistently attracted over 90% of the national buying power from the retail community positioning the show as the largest preview event for winter sports products. Exhibitors on tap to display new product lines for the 2007-08 season represent over 95% of the market share for the ski and snowboard sectors and 80% of the Nordic, telemark and snowshoe market.
According to the most recent SIA Retail Audit released earlier this month, total sales at specialty stores, chain stores and via the Internet climbed to $856 million for the August through November period. The industry continues to see growth in the following categories: twin tip skis, integrated systems, and apparel including insulated parkas, softshells and shells.
