Just got back from a nice 3 days (more or less) at Kirkwood. Most likely the last powder filled few days there for the 2005-2006 season. They close at the end of the month, and it looks like some nice spring weather finally in the forecast... What a winter...

Saturday = Partly sunny/parly cloudy, 2-4" of fresh spring snow (not powder) on a smooth base of 17-24 feet... Kinda soft and mushy, but fun...
Sunday = Snow, wind, snow, wind, and more snow and wind. ONLY about 6-10" of new snow at the start of the day, another 12+ inches fell during the day, and it was dumping when we left, or, um, tried to leave. All roads in and out of Kirkwood closed by 2:45pm. Exit to South Shore (eastbound 88) opened for an escorted trip over Carson pass at 8:20pm through blizzard conditions and the occasional whiteout. Fun driving... 50 From South Lake back to the valley closed off and on, so we grabbed a cheap room in South Lake and made plans to call in sick Monday.
Monday = Bluebird, no wind & another 12" of good cold pow on top of the 2ft from the previous day. Between the 12" after closing and the winds, not a sign of tracks was to be found from the day before.. Could only ride 'til 12:30pm as west 88 was still not open due to avy control, and we needed to take the long way home back through Tahoe...

Too stormy and too much fun to stop and take many of the three days... Good times were had by all...
