View Full Version : Hiking Boot Fit Problem

I have had horrible luck finding a good packing boot - my heel pulls up on every boot I've tried. I've struck out with almost all Vasque's and Asolos. This last summer I purchased the Asolo TPS 520 GV (which was the best fit I could come up with) and probably put 60+ miles on them before returing them to REI (gave me full refund!) I tried everything I could think of to keep the my heels down: bridged all the laces tightly, thick smartwool sock etc. The footbed was a good fit but I'm told there's just too much space around my ankles, which admittedly, are very skinny. I was told a woman's boot may run fit better around the ankles but so far I've found nothing in a 10.5 mens size.

Now, I'm back on the hunt for a boot and the best fit is the Montrail Torre GTX - but my heel still pulls about 1/3 to 1/2 inch on inclines.

Any suggestions (boots or fitting techniques) people might offer would be appreciated. I'm kind of at a loss here.
Thanks,
John
