I have managed to ruin my Bibler Anawahnee. All of the zippers (the net door and the outer door) are off the track with big gaps broken out of the zipper teeth. I can't raise a door. The door lays in the dirt and sand if you don't roll it up, which I didn't, and I have a lot of time in this tent. Bibler will give me 15 percent off on a new one, and right now that's what I'm inclined to do. It's a shame, the body is still water tight, but the Bibler guy said it would probably cost me as much as a new one to get new zippers put in. Any new single wall tents i should look at? I don't think the ones with silnylon would do for me, probably punch holes all throught it,

:) Yeah. It was all that desert sand...most of which is still in it.

knowing you as I do, I'm surprised it has held up this long. :p

My advice, for what it's worth, is to go with another Bibler. They are bomb proof, and almost Gam proof!

I have been using a Black Diamond Lighthouse for about a year now. It has been out a lot of times and in a lot of places. It's lighter than the Bibler stuff, and I've used it in the snow, but it's not a full-on winter tent. Nor would I use it as a mountaineering tent in high, exposed places. With those two reservations, I have to say I love the tent and it works beautifully for the trips I take. I have a lot of tents, but now that I have the Lighthouse I no longer find myself drooling over the new ones anymore. Of course, there are some new 20-degree down bags that might be worth investigating . . .

Still have mine! GAM! I can't believe you ruined Anawahnee after we fought over who was gonna buy one first.

How ya been? Happy Holidays All!

Gam...If it's a full-on winter tent you'd be looking for, take a look at the Hillebergs. From Sweden, everything they produce is 4-season. I have a Nallo 2, about 3 years old, and it's probably the sturdiest tent I've used. The newer Nallo 2, a 2-person, weighs in at about 4.5 lbs.....not too bad. I've used mine several times, once in a very nasty wind storm at Joshua Tree and it stood steady as a rock. Moontrail.com carries a good selection with a very good photo section showing all different set ups. But anyhoooo....on a different note, it's good to see Jill and Lynne still wandering the neighborhood :) Ed

Ed, that Nallo 2 looks too complicated for me, inner walls, outer walls and all of that. It took me two years to learn to get the poles in the Annawahanee in less than 30 minutes, actually I never learned, they just sort of bent to my expectations over time.

TrinityAlps, I was planning on getting a Mountain Light for a lighter 3 season tent until this one lost it's zippers. I guess I'll go ahead and follow Lynn's advice and get another Awahee, event though they have full doors on both sides now (just what I need, more zippers).

Jill, the number of nights I've spent in that tent is ridiculously huge, Here's an easy one for you. :)

wow all these old names popped up!

i just acquired an awhanee, like i needed it, but the price was too good, that thing has given you fits hadn't it, if we can ever meet on a hike, we'll have awahnee races to see who can get their tent up without destroying it :o)

The quickest mine ever went up was the time you put the poles in it.

Duuude, my tent is broken, I doubt that I will fool with one by that time. Well there is the Condensation Station, but I don't want to wake up in an ice cave.

havent been to this sight ina while, but i do recognize some of the names.
i am looking for a proper 4 season because i have been suffering too much in my3 season and all of the possible enhancments i can can cheaply supply. i sweat a good amount and have been considering both a mountain hardwear trango and something in the hillberg line, like ED mentions. i just dont think a single wall works for me, but goodluck either way.

Satan...While I've used the Hilleberg several times in the high desert with very hard blowing winds, and it held up very well, I have not used it in snowy, blustery mountain conditions. However....I did loan ot to a friend just last week, and he's taking up to 11,500' this weekend, for 2 nights, and it looks like he'll be running smack-dab into a snowstorm. If you like, I'll let you know how everything went as far as tent performance. He's very experienced, knows what he's doing, and will give me an honest evaluation. Ed

i would appreciate any info on the hillbergs other than their advertisements. i am home for another two weeks and was hoping to get something quickly so i could go camping up in the white mountains (nh) with my brother before i head to afghanistan, however i will not rush a purchase and buy something not worth the money. i guess we will have to go with my 3-season and i will buy my 4 season sometime in the near future, thank you.

it was nice to see a lot of the famliar names on this site.

Steve...the fellow I loaned my Hilleberg to, also named Steve, is also considering several 4- season tents, one of them being the Hilleberg Nallo 2, which is why I let him borrow it. Tooooo much $$$$ to put out without trying it. If you send me your e mail address, I will have Steve send you an in-depth opinion as to how it performed for him....good or bad. As mentioned, he is experienced, no - nonsense and will let you know. My e mail is ekenny1@earthlink.net. Send me yours and I'll let him know that you are interested in any info or opinions he has. Ed
