Who has experience with the new MSR tents??

I am wondering if anyone has experience with MSR tents? I wonder if the quality is still the same as before, when Moss was still building them. I am specifically interested in info about the Sentinel and Fury.

I have the MSR Zoid 1 and the MSR Zoid 2. I find both to be of outstanding quality. There had been some earlier comment as to the fact that in storms you got wet because of all the netting. BULL. I had the Zoid 1 in a tropical storm (Bill I believe) at 6300 ft this last summer with plenty of wind and several inches of rain. NO leaks or blowins at all. I just laid there with my book and enjoyed it all. I can not comment on the two tents that you mention but! Moss made three tarps that I own the hepa wing the vista wing and the outfitter. The first two that I have are made by Moss, the last that I have is the outfitter made by MSR. Same quality. I have alot of MSR goods and find their gear to be of the best quality. Keith

MSR tents, especially the two you mention are very well made and will stand up to quite a bit of weather. MSR bought the tent companies that made Walrus and Moss tents which were both very well thought of. I believe that the two designs you are looking at are former Moss designs. There were complaints a few years ago when Moss moved their production overseas like you say (they used to be made in New England), but the quality didn't suffer much, and the designs were still as strong or stronger than Mountain Hardware, Marmot, TNF, etc.

The one complaint about these tents is that they are heavy and really overbuilt for everything but winter. If you're looking at these for year-round use, there may be better options. Also, for the price (Yeouch, steep!) you could be looking at a single wall from Bibler or Integral Designs, a tent that is light enough for one, but could fit two in a pinch. Hope this helps.

When/if you have some free time Mon-Fri 8-4:30 PST call us at 800-531-9531 and we can work with you on simmering with your simmerlite. If it is clogging, old fuel could be the culprit, but despite the name, the simmerlite does take some work to get to simmer. Basically having the control at the pump leads to lag time from the time you adjust the knob, and when it affects the flame. The folks on the phone are top notch, and can ask you questiosn to offer tips you may not have tried yet.

The MSR's may be good tents, but for those prices, check out Hillberg! Their Nallo series seems very solid, while being superlight. If you want 1 person, the Akto can't be beat for a 4-season solo.

I just looked at this tent today at REI and it looks sturdy, but heavy for the space. It is essentially a SD Tiros design but is only 29 sq. ft. In person, it looks really cramped for two people and is too heavy to be carried solo. The vestibule is nice and large, so I suppose you could store extra gear there and have more room in the interior. Nice looking, but lacking imho.

--The coolest tent this year is the Missing Link. Besides the "Safety Orange" color, this tent is awesome. Easy to carry, set up and want to live in.
I also like the Zoids. MSR makes great tents. I would never buy anything but MSR.
