I am thinking about buying one, but 1. They are hard to find. 2. I can't find a good review. Does anyone know the pro's and con's of this unit. It looks like it would be perfect in the back country with the topo already built in and everything else. What concerns me is that none of the major outfitters have this in stock. Keith

I just spent the last two days with a Garmin rep and a Nation Geographic software rep. What are you looking to use this unit for? Magellan in general will be a little larger then Garmin units, but this also provides for easier use in colder months (wearing gloves or mittens). Also, the display will be larger. Would you still be carrying a topo map of the area? Judging by the amount of memeory dedicated to the topo maps, this will not be USGS quad detail. If you have any other questions regarding maping software or Garmin units (not super familiar with Magellan) feel free to email me (dan@janofsky.net).

Thanks for the info. I have not seen this unit yet. Just read about it. If I decide to go further with this I will email you with questions. What I am looking for is a dedicated topo gps that will give me enough detail to hike by. I like gps but still wear belt and suspenders. (campass and map). I guess it is more like a toy. Keith

Keith,

I know this is an old thread, but I haven't been at the Board for awhile. I have been using Magellans for years. This my third summer using the Sportrak Pro Topo. If you have questions I will try and help. By the way, I love mine.
